Why Sailor Soap?
While in Key West, Florida staying on our brother’s sailboat in the harbor, we got into a discussion about people who live on their boats in salt water and how they shower. I was surprised to learn that a harsh dish detergent was one of very few cleansers that lathered in salt water and then of course needed rinsing in the boaters’ fresh water supply. This was their personal hygiene product. The irony of this situation was the fact that boaters were surrounded by water and couldn’t bathe in it with any degree of comfort. Yuck. Dishsoap was made to degease pots and pans – not skin.

On my return home to Cleveland, Ohio, I couldn’t get this problem off my mind. We are skin care specialists by profession for over 13 years and I felt we could come up with a solution.

Working with a wonderful chemist who understands our fussiness, I gave her a formulation that I felt would work; she followed my specifications, made me my first samples and we were ready for testing.

After sending samples to Key West for salt water testing, the results were outstanding! Imagine being able to throw a clean bucket overboard and bringing saltwater on board and using that pail of water to wash your hair and self in and rinsing using the saltwater; and coming out with soft skin and hair! No freshwater rinsing. No itching, no salty residue, no dry skin, no baby oil. It was great!

Well, the rest of the story is that we started bottling this formula and we introduced it to several retail stores in the Key West market. It is doing extremely well and everyone who trys it, loves it.

An excellent, biodegradable cleanser for fresh and salt water use. Allows you to do a final rinse in salt water, too. There’s no other product on the market like it. Saves on fresh water because you can use the salt water for rinsing as well as lathering up. Rich in aloe vera gel, tea tree oil, and eucalyptus oil this concentrated gel can also be used in hair and beards, for shaving (men and ladies), kids and pets! Leaves skin and hair feeling clean and conditioned even after a salt water rinse. Ph balanced, leaves no irritating alkali residue behind. Won’t pollute. Can even be applied directly on fire coral and jellyfish stings to soothe away the sting. Tea tree and eucalyptus oils, are considered antibacterial and antifungal by all texts on essential oils. It is exceptionally great for tropical climates because of these essential oils.

Directions: Use as an all-over face, body, and hair cleanser. A little goes a long, long way. Wet your skin and hair thoroughly, use a small amount of Sailor Soap in your hair and on a sponge or nylon "shower flower" and lather up and then rinse in your source of water (ocean or lake). Sailor Soap is water soluble so it rinses quickly and cleanly – salt water users do not have to waste their fresh water on rinsing!! The skin feels clean and comfortable. Hair, too.

For external use only. Keep out of eyes. In case of contact with eyes, flush thoroughly with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Ingredients: Water, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Tea Lauryl Sulfate, Aloe Vera Gel, Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Ginseng Extract, Chlorophyllin Copper Complex, Carbomer, Imidazolidinyl Urea, DMDM Hydantoin.
